Dadpe Poha

Poha (Flattened Rice) has travelled from Maharashtrian platter to whole world. Healthy breakfast recipes from Poha are delicious and now making its special place not only in our own country India but also worldwide. There are numerous ways and recipes with Poha.

Most common one is Kande Poha (Onion Poha). Today I am bringing about the lesser known uncooked preparation with Poha especially thin Poha known as Dadpe Poha.

Dadpe Poha is not only easy to make, delicious and less time consuming but does not even require cooking. Only simple tempering does the magic while retaining its nutritional values.

What is Dadpe Poha?

Dadpe Poha is a Gluten free quick breakfast recipe from Maharashtra made with raw thin or medium Poha mixed together with chopped onion, grated coconut, lemon juice tempered with mustard seeds, curry leaves and roasted peanuts.

Quick and Easy Recipe Of Dadpe Poha

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Thin/ Medium Poha (flattened rice)

  • 1 finely chopped onion (medium-sized)

  • Half cup grated coconut

  • 2 teaspoon freshly chopped coriander leaves

  • 1 finely chopped green chillies

  • 1 tablespoon oil

  • 1 teaspoon mustard-cumin seeds

  • 2 tablespoon peanuts

  • 7-8 curry leaves

  • Salt as per taste

  • 2 teaspoon lemon juice (adjust as per taste)

  • Half teaspoon asafoetida (hing)

  • Half teaspoon turmeric powder (optional)

How to make Dadpe Poha

  • Strain the flattened rice through a sieve to remove excess impurities. Transfer it to a mixing bowl.

  • Add onion, coconut, lemon juice, green chilli, salt to it and mix well with spoon. Close the lid and let it rest for 10-15 minutes. This will make the poha soft and moist.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add asafoetida, cumin-mustard seeds, curry leaves ,add peanuts to it. Fry them .Add Turmeric and let it temper for 1 minute.
  • Now, pour it in the poha bowl, add coriander, and again mix everything well with spoon. Let it rest for 10 more minutes to absorb the flavours and serve either as breakfast or with evening tea.
  • Add sugar as per taste if required.

Recipe Notes

  • Use thin poha to make Dadpe Poha as thin poha easily absorbs the flavours.

  • Add on few chopped veggies like carrots, cucumber, beetroot to increase crispiness as well as nutritional value.

  • Addition of Coconut water or milk elevates the flavour of Dadpe Poha.

  • Adjust spiciness and sourness by adjusting the quantity of green chillies and lemon.

  • Grated raw mango can be substituted for lemon depending upon avaialbility.
